Born in South Korea in 1978 adopted along with her twin sister Nicole and flown to their new home in Sydney at 6 months of age. Chrissy Hammond became part of a family with a history of craftsmanship and fashion. Her father had business in fine jewellery and precious stones, and her grand parents had immigrated to Sydney after the Second World War to run a boutique fashion label. As a girl, Chrissy was surrounded by her grandmother’s extravagant wardrobe and eclectic taste in design and her father’s passion for immaculate craftsmanship. With an obsession for hand crafting objects Chrissy enrolled in a Fine Arts degree majoring in sculpture, laying a strong foundation for her approach to design. After graduating from a BFA at COFA, The University of New South Wales (UNSW) and part of her study in Austin Texas USA, Chrissy began her career in shoe making in 1998 working with a local Sydney shoe designer and bespoke maker. |
Leaving Australia again in 2000 she travelled abroad to the sleepy seaside town of Brighton, England working for renowned shoe designer Paul Harnden assisting with his hand made shoe collaboration with designer Rei Kawakubo for Comme Des Garcons. Undertaking freelance design and shoemaking on her return to Australia, she worked and collaborated with local fashion designers, the entertainment industry and produced bespoke footwear and accessories for the Australian Opera. Chrissy brings her experience to Marsu Homme as a creative director and designer. Using her skills in shoemaking and sculpture. Designing and making prototypes from her Studio based in Sydney and inspired by artists, unique objects and cultures of the world. Chrissy develops and experiments with designs and leather finishes for our tanneries to produce and ensure all Marsu Homme shoes are beautifully crafted. |
